I try to make it out here at least once a month from the city. It's definitely a bit of a hike, but worth it. There are a handful of walking trails and a small playground for little ones. I noticed over the winter that they had cut down *a lot* of mature trees and when I went back this week, they had a bunch of them piled up by the parking lot. There's also a lot of new construction homes being built directly around this forest preserve, so I do worry about its future.
Beautiful, well maintained park that’s great for all sorts of trail recreation, from hiking to biking to cross country skiing. The trails are all very well marked, and the preserve is STUNNING in autumn, but I go all year round. In winter, you can snowshoe or cross country ski here (plenty of classic skiers so there’s usually some sort of track). It connects to trails all the way up to Wisconsin. Parking could be limited on weekends on nice days.
Another beautiful day for an autumn run with multiple flat gravel paths that loop around the park with scenic foliage around every turn. Also good to go for a stroll or bike. Park benches along the path as well to have a picnic or rest to take in all that good nature.
I didn’t realize it had rained that much and overtaken parts of the trail. Unfortunately, the standing water attracts mosquitoes. It didn’t ruin my walk too much though. Plenty of other trail to wander.
Visited on 10/31/21 - Wonderful spot to get into nature if you can’t drive to Wisconsin. They do have restrooms and the paths are compacted base material - not paved - but a wheelchair could likely be ok on the trails.
Leash your dogs and don’t leave trash.
