Illini State Park whitetail loop was a great place to be for Father's Day weekend! s
Site 62 was the perfect amount of shade with a big open green area right across from it for the kids to play in. The only downside was the mulberry trees we're a little messy.

We spent five nights here and the host and hostess were great! They are very kind and willing to help make your stay a wonderful experience! I miss the barges while work is being completed on the lock and dam but will definitely be going back soon!

Looks abandoned in several places, but perfectly walkable if you feel up to the task.

Very nice state park. Camp hosts are wonderful and keep everything clean and sanitary. Showers are hot, not tepid. There are no water hook-ups at any of the sites in the park, so plan accordingly. There is potable water and a dump station. There are also pit toilets by the playground. Those are also clean and checked. Bring your firewood!!

2023 - We have stayed here twice since my original review, and I'm giving it 5 stars. This year's camping hosts are AWESOME! Super friendly and very accommodating. We camped last year as well and had a very nice time, but after comparing Illini with other local spots, they are excellent. Maintenance is onsite, the campground hosts are accessible and the sites are well kept. The bathrooms are clean as well, considering.

2022 - We stayed in the White Pines Campground which has electric sites. After we set up camp, we realized our electrical box wasn't working. We weren't sure who we needed to contact but decided to move to an empty site. Fortunately, the camp hosts came by later in the evening with maintenance to work on the box. I did appreciate that they were always out and about. I'm not sure what would have happened if the other campers arrived while we were in their spot, but they didn't. Overall, it was a quiet stay. We had a raccoon visit in the middle of the night and stole food from our tent. We also saw some deer run through.
